ABOUT US
Rose of Charity was founded in 2008 by Sima Moyo in response to the growing number of children orphaned by HIV/AIDS she encountered on the streets of Victoria Falls. She listened to the heart-wrenching stories of their parents’ deaths -- something young children in developed countries rarely have to contend with. Not only were these children devastated by the loss of their parents but with no family or government support, they became homeless and destitute.
Sima was incredibly moved by their stories and wanted to help. She began feeding them out of her own home, using her own savings, three days a week, and taking them to church. Her selfless work was soon recognized by the national media as filling a critical need of increasing scope and magnitude, and in response, she founded a welfare organization*. She named it “Rose of Charity” after her daughter told her, “Mom, you like helping people; you are like a “rose of charity.” After asking her daughter what she meant, her daughter replied that it is a heart with warmth and love. It is in this spirit that Rose of Charity began and continues today.
